Description

Students will create vector graphics through tutorials and projects using Adobe Illustrator. They will produce vector print graphic design work, on-screen vector graphical content, and design project presentation work.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;

1.

Design and create vector graphic logos and business literature.

2.

Create vector graphical icons and other design content in Adobe Illustrator.

3.

Understand the advantages that vector images have over raster images.

4.

Use vector images in creating original designed art in project work.

Teaching and Learning Strategies

The subject will be evaluated by a combination of assignments, and projects.

Module Assessment Strategies

The student will receive instruction in a specific area in the form of a tutorial. This will be followed by shorts assignments and design projects where the student applies the knowledge gained. The semester will conclude whereby the students will present a portfolio of assignments and project work.

Repeat Assessments

On failure of the module, the student will be issued with a repeat project/projects that will satisfy the module learning outcomes.

Adobe Illustrator: Introduction, Work Area, Selections & Shapes, Transforming Objects, Drawing with the pen Tools, Colour & Painting, Working with Type, Working with Layers, Blending Shapes & Colour, Working with Symbols, Brushes & options, Appearance Attributes, Graphic Styles & Effects, Using 3D effects.

Graphic, Logo & Icon Design Skills: Introduction to Graphic Design, Graphic design problem-solving exercises, Logo design, Business card, and corporate literature design, Corporate Identity, Vector illustration of original artwork.
