Description

This module is intended to develop the learners knowledge and skills on the implementation of Building Information Modelling 3D software and CAD for creating structural models and details for Civil & Construction projects and collaborating with other industry professionals on projects in a BIM environment. The focus is on developing the learners practical skills in using the software to work effectively on BIM projects.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;

1.

Understand the implementation of BIM and CAD standards involved in industry

2.

Create simple BIM & CAD models of steel and concrete framed structures in BIM software

3.

Create construction details including concrete and steel detailing in BIM Software

4.

Create Topographical surfaces using survey data in 3D BIM compatible software and import these into a BIM model

5.

Communicate in BIM CDE & CAD based project environments

Teaching and Learning Strategies

This module will be delivered using blended learning techniques augmented by practical classes, independent learning directed learning. This approach is expected to address student-learning needs. A learning platform such as Moodle will be used to upload educational material (i.e. tutorial recordings plus supplementary reading material) and as a means of assessment (e.g. uploading assignments and projects). This blended approach (lectures and pre-recorded tutorials) allows students work at their own pace. Projects from Construction Technology module will be implemented in this this module to assist with their understanding of Construction Technology theory.

Module Assessment Strategies

Continuous Assignments throughout term allowing for formative and summative feedback

Repeat Assessments

Re-submission of Continuous Assessment assignments/project work for Autumn exam board pending meeting module attendance requirement.
