This module introduces students to the Construction Industry and the role of both Design and Building Teams.

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;
Identify the organisational structure of firms in the construction industry
Describe the roles and responsibilities of the members of the building team
Outline the various documentation in circulation within a construction project
Recognise the influence of professional/representitive bodies on the construction industry
Discuss on-going developments influencing the industry

Introduction to Irish Construction Industry: structure; sectors (public/private); fragmented nature; types of firms; influences – economy/energy/government
International Construction Industry: UK, Europe, Middle East, America, Asia, Australia/NZ
Documentation: Drawings, Specifications, Bills of Quantities, Schedule of Rates
The Design Team: Quantity Surveyor, Architect, Engineer, Project Manager
The Building Team: Client, Clerk of Works, Contractor, Sub-Contractor, Supplier, Estimator, Site Agent/Manager, Contracts Manager, Foreman
