Description

This module will introduce students to the practical and theoretical world of e-commerce. Student will gain knowledge of the factors underpinning the e-commerce sector, the economic importance of e-commerce and its business models. It will introduce students into the legal and ethical framework surrounding of e-Commerce.

The practical element of the module will involve the students building fully operational e-commerce sites. This will be completed as group projects using open source software, like WordPress and WooCommerce. 

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;

Appreciate the importance of the e-commerce business environment and the evolution of the sector

Identify the foundations of the various e-commerce business models and analyse the application of these models.

Derive a business plan and appreciate the value of project management.

4.

Demonstrate how marketing, payment systems and security are used to support e-commerce

Be aware of the legal and ethical issues concerning eCommerce

6.

Construct an e-commerce solution for the business environment

Teaching and Learning Strategies

The students will engage with the lecturer for two hours a week online. They will support this with a period of self directed learning.
