Indicative Syllabus

Develop an independent, reflective and self-managed approach to study reinforced by goal setting

  • Through lectures and student-centred workshops students are taught the importance of, and the skills to develop, an independent, reflective and self-managed approach to study reinforced by goal setting.  Theory and practice, in relation to concepts such as, the self, teams, and responsibility, is important here.

  Build confidence in interpersonal skills

  • Interpersonal skills, verbal and non-verbal, are built and developed through group tasks such as: discussions, debates and presentations.  Interpersonal skills are an essential core set of skills that every student must possess in order to function efficiently and purposefully both in the academic environment and then in their employment environment.

Analyse key influences on the information technology sector

  • Students are encouraged to view the big picture of information technology.  Topics for consideration under this heading include, though may not be limited to: politics, education, culture, finance, leadership, ethics and law.  Students will receive instruction and guidance, case studies, articles and so forth, and be expected to engage with the material to form individual opinions which they shall have the opportunity to defend and elucidate.

Demonstrate skills appropriate to higher education such as, though not limited to: academic writing and critical thinking

  • Through guided research-based activities, students will analyse data to reach conclusions, and present those findings by means of presentations and/or written reports.  Students will be instructed on how to research, colate and present material in a professional manner appropriate to academic standards and the higher education environment.
