CAPP06043 2019 Information Technology and Systems Administration
The module provides the student with practical knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access together with an understanding of the role of Information Technology in the property market, with particular emphasis on property and facilities management. The aim of the module is to ensure that students are proficient in the four main Microsoft packages which are relevant in the day-to-day practice of a property and facilities manager, and also to appreciate the role that information technology can play in supporting and developing the duties of a property and facilities manager.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;
Demonstrate skills and knowledge in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
Develop and explain Excel based solutions for property and facilities management related problems.
Create and query an Access based database suitable for the property and facilities management industry.
Describe the role of information technology in the property market and in supporting and developing the duties of a property and facilities manager
Identify and explain the added value that information technology in the property and facilities management industry can bring if utilised correctly
Teaching and Learning Strategies
This module will be delivered using blended learning techniques. This will include lectures / online lectures for online students (via adobe connect or similar), and guest lectures augmented by independent learning and directed learning. This approach addresses student learning needs. Moodle will be used to upload educational material (i.e. presentations and recordings of online lectures plus supplementary reading material) and as a means of assessment (e.g. quizzes, uploading assignments and journals). This blended approach brings students together to facilitate group learning.
The teaching strategy will also use a blended approach of lectures & self-directed learning.

This module will identify and explain the relevant applications and added value of Information Technology and Systems Administration in the context of the day to day working activities of Property and Facilities Management professionals. The module will develop the students ability to interpret, outline and demonstrate the appropriate applications of;
- Microsoft Word to Property and Facilities Management Professionals.
- Microsoft Excel to Property and Facilities Management Professionals.
- Microsoft Powerpoint to Property and Facilities Management Professionals.
- Microsoft Access to Property and Facilities Management Professionals.
