Description

The module introduces learners to the structure and functions of antibodies in immnoassays with respect to Forensic applications.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;

1.

Explain the production of antibodies by an immune system

2.

Illustrate the differences between monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies.

3.

Outline different types of techniques used in immunodiagnostics.

4.

Describe the antibody antigen interaction and precipitation reactions.

5.

Perform and report on, immunodiagnostic laboratory experiments and communicate information accurately and effectively using written, visual and numeral forms.

Teaching and Learning Strategies

The Immunodiagnostics module will be delivered full time and will include lectures, laboratory practicals.  Moodle will be used as a repository of educational resources and as a means of assessment where appropriate.

Module Assessment Strategies

The Immunodiagnostics module is 40% Practical and 60% Theory.

Laboratory skills and report-writing ability are assessed as part of the practical work performed during the module (40%).  There will be in assessment (10%) and there will be a Final Exam (50%)

The student must reach an assigned gate of 30% in the final exam and achieve 40% overall to pass the subject.

Repeat Assessments

Repeat Continuous Assessment and/or Final Exam
