BIO09035 2013 BIOANALYTICAL TECHNIQUES
This module is taken by Masters students in Biopharmaceutical Science or Engineering. It aims to provide students with a detailed knowledge and understanding of the various analytical test methods used in a biopharmaceutical Quality Control laboratory to assess the raw material, in-process, bulk drug substance and finished product quality attributes.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;
Discuss and critically evaluate the applications of the test methods listed in a biopharmaceutical product analysis.
Source and interpret the theory behind the test methods listed.
Identify and interpret equipment requirements for performance of the test methods listed.
Formulate and communicate judgements with regard to biopharmaceutical analytical techniques.
Source relevant information, critically interpret and apply appropriate referenced literature from a wide range of information sources
Demonstrate effective communication skills in an appropriate format.
Indicative Syllabus
The following is a summary of the main topics included in this particular module: Testing strategy for drug substance characterization, routine release testing and stability testing; Protein assays; Slab-gel and Capillary electrophoresis ; Immunoassays; Liquid chromatography (including high performance liquid chromatography, ion chromatography and ultra performance liquid chromatography); Mass spectrometry, Qualitative and quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction and other nucleic acid technologies.
