Description

This practical module aims to provide the student with a solid foundation in the main types of testing which is used for biopharmaceuticals to establish their overall quality, safety and efficacy. A range of laboratory-based experiments will be undertaken for this purpose.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;

1.

Outline and evaluate the various test methods routinely employed in the analysis of biopharmaceutical products.

2.

Perform a range of relevant laboratory-based, basic experiments relating to the Quality Control of biopharmaceutical products.

3.

Interpret data from both qualitative and quantitative analytical techniques.

4.

Analyse typical data obtained in an analytical laboratory.

5.

Report on experimental results and findings using Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and Good Documentation Practices (GDP).

Teaching and Learning Strategies

This module will be delivered part time.  It will include lectures augmented by independent learning and directed learning.  The laboratory practical will be completed at NIBRT, Dublin.  Moodle will be used as a repository of educational resources

Module Assessment Strategies

The module is 70% continuous assessment and 30% final exam.  The assessment will consist of a range of quizzes, assignments and laboratory write-ups.

Repeat Assessments

Repeat assessment or practical and/or final exam.
