Description

This module is a progress from Mechatronics 101 it introduces the student to more advanced control of pneumatic circuits.

PLC systems will be explored.

Students will be introduced to the use of robotics technology in industry.

Students will learn how to teach a robot (5 axis and 6 axis) positions using a hand held controller.

Students will be introduced to graphical programming techniques using Labiew, including data

acquisition.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;

1.

The student will be introduced to the techniques required to program PLCs.

2.

Demonstrate an understanding of robotic configurations.

3.

Select positions using a 5 axis and 6 axis robot using a hand-held controller

4.

Write robotic programs using Melfa basic programming language to perform pick and place operations.

5.

Design a program in Labview to interface via a DAC

Teaching and Learning Strategies

Students will engage with industry though industry visits and guest lecturers.

Indicative Syllabus

Safety:

Identification of hazards associated with PLC, Robotics, and CIM systems

PLC:

PLC uses in industry, programming methods,

Robotics:
