ART06102 2019 Printmaking 4 (Project Based Printmaking 2)
Continuing from Printmaking 3, Printmaking 4 is led primarily by conceptual and thematic concerns. These concerns will be shaped and focused through thematic studio projects, common across the different studio areas. The possibilities of printmaking will be further explored and allied to the general development of the individual student's ideas and visual language. Themes and concepts in printmaking will be explored through illustrated lectures and discussion of related themes across a range of the visual arts.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;
Express individual responses to thematic project briefs through the medium of printmaking.
Have extended their knowledge of a range of themes and concepts in printmaking and the wider visual arts.
Demonstrate a developing awareness of individual potential, and an ability to express individual ideas in visual form.
Have knowledge of and an ability to work within a wide range of printmaking media and processes.
Teaching and Learning Strategies
Lectures illustrating themes and processes of printmaking in contemporary art practices.
Workshop demonstrations and practices fitted to individual student needs.
One to one tutorials will develop the learners capacity to engage productively with printmaking processes in the context of their wider learning agendas.
Field trips and visiting artists will complement the students work programme.
Module Assessment Strategies
In the final week of the semester, the assessment will be based on a presentation of course work. The presentation will include working drawings and other images, notebooks, proofs, and final prints. There will also be a formal mid-semester review.
The students achievement will be measured on the evidence of their submitted work. The effective development, execution and presentation of course work will be evaluated.
Repeat Assessments
A comprehensive repeat project brief will be offered to students who fail to achieve a pass grade or better for the module. The repeat project will contain a comprehensive project brief requiring a response through a variety of printmaking media. The deadline for the repeat project will be August 31 of the relevant academic year. In evaluating the repeat project the effective development, execution and presentation of the project work will be considered.
