This module aims to extend the student’s interdisciplinary engagement with the arts, deepening their understanding of diverse approaches to creative engagement and broadening their practical experience of creative and representational techniques.

The module engages students from a selection of creative programmes in collaborative interdisciplinary projects led by lecturers from a range of disciplines from the arts, design and architecture.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;


Demonstrate awareness of convergent and divergent thinking; and an awareness of interdisciplinary approaches to creative practice.


Interact effectively with others, through collaboration, team work and negotiation.


Utilise both familiar and unfamiliar diagnostic and creative skills in unfamiliar contexts.


Develop ideas as part of a group through to resolved and accessible outcomes


Demonstrate an expanded capacity to work with materials and media.

Teaching and Learning Strategies

A choice of topics or questions to prompt creative enquiry is introduced to interdisciplinary student teams/groups. These ‘questions’ may arise in response to topical local, regional or societal issues, or emerge at intersections of interest arising out of the lecturers’ own creative areas of enquiry. Through creative enquiry each interdisciplinary team/group then develops a response to one of the proposed questions. The groups’ outputs are communicated using media, modes and formats that include but extend beyond those habitually used in the respective students’ disciplines. Each student is expected to keep a graphic journal which documents and reflects on the question explored, the creative process and its outcomes/products.

The module is delivered using a combination of short lectures, seminars, practical tutorials and creative/design reviews.

Module Assessment Strategies

Group exhibit /artefact/performance with seminar presentation; graphic reflective journal.

Repeat Assessments

Repeat assessment will be dependent on failed components. This will be confirmed at formal exam boards.
