Description

As the world changes and organisations grapple and change in response to it, leaders have to respond but not be reactionary. How does the today and tomorrow leader do this, how do they keep themselves informed, how do they adapt and have the breadth of knowledge to do the right thing, how do they manage their own self during this time.

This module will explore leadership in the modern world and worldwide problems and examine and explore how leaders might best respond and perform during times of contemporary problems and changes. The module will examine contemporary questions in real-time and consider ways to best address these as effective professional leaders. Topics may include examining entrepreneurship, strategic talent management, green leadership, or examine the healthy leader, the digital work of work, or networking for leaders.

It is therefore envisaged that this module will change and evolve with the issues current at any given time and address new dimensions of leadership. The 'Indicative Syllabus' is therefore indicative of the trends that may impact on Leadership as they emerge.

"Psychology from an Empirical Standpoint is Brentano's most important and brilliant work. It helped to establish psychology as a scientific discipline, but did so in a highly original and distinctive manner by arguing for a form of introspectionism. Brentano argued that consciousness is always unified and that the hallmark of the mind is that one's thoughts are always directed towards something - his famous theory of 'intentionality' - arguments that have deep implications not just for philosophy but psychology, cognitive science and consciousness studies."--Publisher's website.

Conquer the most essential adaptation to the knowledge economy Psychological Safety at Work: How to Ensure Learning and Innovation in the Knowledge Economy offers practical guidance for teams and organizations who are serious about success in the modern economy. With so much riding on innovation, creativity, and spark, it is essential to attract and retain quality talentbut what good does this talent do if no one is able to speak their mind? The traditional culture of fitting in and going along spells doom in the knowledge economy. Success requires a continuous influx of new ideas, new challenges, and critical thought, and the interpersonal climate must not suppress, silence, ridicule or intimidate. Not every idea is good, and yes there are stupid questions, and yes dissent can slow things down, but talking through these things is an essential part of the creative process. People must be allowed to voice half-finished thoughts, ask questions from left field, and brainstorm out loud; it creates a culture in which a minor flub or momentary lapse is no big deal, and where actual mistakes are owned and corrected, and where the next left-field idea could be the next big thing. This book explores this culture of psychological safety, and provides a blueprint for bringing it to life. The road is sometimes bumpy, but succinct and informative scenario-based explanations provide a clear path forward to constant learning and healthy innovation. Explore the link between psychological safety and high performance Create a culture where its safe to express ideas, ask questions, and admit mistakes Nurture the level of engagement and candor required in todays knowledge economy Follow a step-by-step framework for establishing psychological safety in your team or organization Shed the yes-men approach and step into real performance. Fertilize creativity, clarify goals, achieve accountability, redefine leadership, and much more. Psychological Safety at Work: How to Ensure Learning and Innovation in the Knowledge Economy helps you bring about this most critical transformation.

One of the leading business thinkers in the world offers a bold, new theory of advanced leadership for tackling the world's complex, messy, and recalcitrant social and environmental problems. To address the big social and environmental issues of our day--from poverty, to race and gender disparities, to climate change--we need a different kind of leadership. Good leadership can help solve problems and guide an organization to success. But as Rosabeth Moss Kanter recognized, there is an enormous gap between "good leadership"--where individuals can use authority to get things done--and "advanced leadership"--where individuals possess the skills required for tackling complex, messy, and recalcitrant issues. Advanced leadership requires not just "thinking outside the box," but "thinking outside the building." Over a decade ago, Kanter co-founded and has since directed Harvard's breakthrough Advanced Leadership Initiative. In this book, she combines extraordinary stories from the business world with a pragmatic tool kit to deliver a new theory of leadership for producing significant societal change, one that begins where conventional leadership thinking ends. We desperately need leaders with wisdom and experience willing to exercise their imaginations to create solutions to society's intractable problems. This book will teach them how.
