Description

This module will build on skills acquired in the module Intermediate Computer and Text Processing 1. The learner will become competent in a wide range of text processing skills which allows them to prepare, process and produce complex business documents accurately and efficiently. The learner will continue to develop effective data and text inputting skills and will continue to develop the skills necessary to work as an audio typist. 

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;

1.

Ability to use tabs, tables and forms functions effectively in business documents.

2.

Create business letters and mail merge documents for printable and email transfer.

3.

Create basic forms to capture both text and numerical data and for printable format.

4.

Be able to produce business documents from audio transcription.

5.

Demonstrate ability to enter meaningful text at a speed of 40 wpm for 10 minutes with 97% accuracy.

Teaching and Learning Strategies

Practical, demonstration of all areas will be given by lecturer with practice facilitate through completion of examples reflective of current business practice.

Module Assessment Strategies

In‑class continuous assessment with scheduled practical assessments; ongoing weekly tasks to be complete and submitted at the end of the Semester in portfolio format; final speed and accuracy test.

Indicative Syllabus

Intermediate Level Functions of Word Processing Software:

  • Advance ability to use functions of word processing software to include home, insert, page layout and design menu functions;
  • Advance formatting, to include spacing, indentation, alignment, styles for headings for long documents, figures and graphics, also the review and view menu;
  • Insert – sections, page numbering for long documents to include starting page numbering at specified number;
  • Utilise the Style function to format documents for the benefit of creating automatic table of contents;
  • Set up tabs effectively and use of leader dots/lines/dashes in documents;
  • Tables – insert, merge, sizing, tabs/leader dots in table;
  • Introduction to basic forms and functions to create forms;
  • Columns and advanced Indentation/alignment to images;
  • Introduction to creating and inputting citations, indexes, table of contents;
  • Templates - using available and creating templates.

Creation/Formatting Business Documentation:

  • Introduction to Mail Merge Documents – merging from data files and spreadsheet;
  • Print addresses on single and multiple labels/merge from database;
  • Introduction to forms, creating basic forms for capturing text and numbers;
  • Multi‑page manuscripts and reports using section breaks;
  • Create forms such as questionnaires, short application forms;
  • Produce Curriculum Vitae - using tabs effectively;
  • Advanced business letters, meeting documents, columns, financial statements, marketing publications in word processing such as brochures and other formats.

Audio Transcription:

  • Producing business documents from dictated text;
  • Produce Specialised work such as financial documents, letters from audio transcription.

Keyboarding Skills:

  • Develop speed an accuracy skills to acquire a minimum of 40wpm with a maximum error level of 3%.
